Call Centers & BPO in the Philippines

Friday, October 27th, 2006

When children are asked what they want to be when they grow up, the usual answer is “doctor” or “nurse” or “engineer.” You don’t hear them say they want to work in a call center or as a medical transcriptionist or as an encoder.

Particularly booming are the offshore call centers, which are estimated to provide employment to around 112,000 people. The call centers are contributing to as much as 12 percent of the country’s gross national product with revenues estimated to reach US$12 billion by 2010.
